tiny reclaim slipcast ceramic cups

Jul 15 2010

Tiny ceramic cups! I made them from the top lids of the slip-casting process for ceramic tiles. Sizes and shape vary – each one is unique and free-formed depending on how much of the slip poured into the hole gets sucked down to form the ceramic tile [which is the primary product]. They are more or less 1 1/4″ wide at the mouth and stand anywhere from 1″ to 1 1/2″ tall. *glazing by Natalie Kruch.

dinosaurs, hoodoos + a strange water creature

Jul 05 2010

After a weekend of road-tripping and exploring a bit of Alberta I have found that there are some pretty amazing things here in Canada — DINOSAURS! HOODOOS! and a strange water creature from Mexico. The Royal Tyrrell Museum just outside of Drumheller is filled with so much history on the evolution of the earth including the bones of dinosaurs like the Albertosaurus. Also outside of Drumheller are hoodoos – sandstone pillars resting on a thick base of shale that’s capped by a big rock. They take millions of years to form and some of them are pretty tall.. 5 to 7 meters! Pretty crazy stuff – inspiring/humbling/amazing.

Art On The Block, Art Gallery of Alberta

May 15 2010

Neon Trees

An auction night at the Art Gallery of Alberta. It was the 12th annual Art on the Block silent auction at the Art Gallery of Alberta on Wednesday, May 12. They raised approximately $120,000 and more than 500 people attended the cocktail party and participated in the art auction supporting the Gallery’s exhibitions and educational programming.

Panache Glass and Ceramics, the company I am currently working for, showed off beautiful panels of glass art from artists Manola Borrajo, Ian Sheldon, and Tammy Henkel with metal sculptural stands by Rogelio Menz which held Manola’s glass panel tulips.

There were also a couple of more contemporary pieces that I worked on — I did the graphics for a series of 3 floral panels that encouraged people to interact with by colouring in the flowers — these graphics were printed on glass. + 3 neon coloured tree inspired panels.

Interactive Colour-In Floral. The graphics were printed on 34″ x 6′4″ up-cycled glass panels which has been slightly textured.

TOY LAMP

May 10 2010

I had some big lego pieces and toys laying around my home studio from Value Village – a thrift store – and also a light fixture leftover from a project so…….I made a toy lamp! Could be a cute nightlight if it’s put on the floor or a dim table lamp.
